The low-income affordable housing project was developed by the West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing. Two new apartment buildings added to an existing building created an affordable senior housing campus in the Bronx. The new buildings include 175 apartments, a senior center, health clinic, local pharmacy, and new social services offices.
Resiliency, affordability, and sustainability were keystones throughout the design process. Emergency generators and redundancy in key equipment were designed in from the start. Affordable heating and cooling technology were applied to keep tenants' utility bills low. The project was designed using the Enterprise Green Communities standard, ensuring sustainable features such as low-water-use plumbing fixtures, high-efficiency boilers, and well-ventilated apartments.
Dagher Engineering provided the MEP/FP engineering design services and the design of anew emergency generator to serve the two new buildings, as well as exploring Enterprise Green Community Standards with the Client.
