Building Information Modeling (BIM)

Dagher Engineering currently utilizes REVIT MEP 2009, a Building Information Modeling (BIM) software package.  This program takes advantage of 3D modeling and other tools to optimize the overall design of systems and addresses coordination issues prior to construction.  By incorporating all the systems with the architecture and structure of buildings during the design phases of a project, the BIM process effectively allows much tighter tolerances for MEP spaces and services.  Having an integrated 3-D model of all systems, coupled with comprehensive Bill of Quantities and associated specifications for all components and systems effectively shortens bid and construction time while also providing quantifiable bids during the pricing period.  We feel these advantages are crucial to designing and constructing efficient buildings.

Due to the obvious shortfalls of CAD, Dagher Engineering was an early proponent of integrating the design process and has been utilizing 3-D modeling approaches since its inception, first through AutoCAD Building Systems, then through the use of REVIT.

The automatic integration of building loads with capacity and components allows for the dedication of time to the design as opposed to the production process.  This, in turn, leads to reduced time to prepare plans, while providing substantially more efficient designs.

Dagher Engineering has had great success employing BIM on many different types of projects, including the Coles Dormitory project at New York University.  For this project we used BIM in conjunction with the architect and structural engineer to produce a new concept for modular student housing to be used in densely populated urban areas.
